A Quick Remembrance of Shannon Hoon and Blind Melon
--By Tzarathustra--
I watched the Blind Melon DVD Live at the Metro earlier today and noticed that lead singer Shannon Hoon has pretty much exactly the dance moves you'd expect him to. It's part unself-conscious nature child, part drug user's twitch. The effect is of peaking in on someone else's quickly evaporating high.
He has an admirable amount of energy for this show and he and the band sound great. The crowd responds to his moves and there is a great moment when they are bouncing together to the spooky strains of Toes Across the Floor from the band's second album, Soup.
There are only a few little moments where you can tell that things are Not Okay for Hoon. Unfortunately, those moments caught up with him quick, as he passed away less than a month after this show.
